Aledo ISD Trustees adopt 2026-2027 budget

Aledo ISD Trustees adopted the 2026-2027 budget Monday night that included lowering the tax rate for the eighth-straight year, setting it at $1.1775 or down $0.0167 from last year. The adopted budget was $138,549,072.

“As a district, we continue as we have for several years to implement ways to save and find other revenue sources so that we can meet the needs of our students and the expectations of our community,” Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn said. “However, due to the inflation of the last several years, we are faced with a deficit budget and concerns about sustainable funding into the future. We will continue to work with our state lawmakers to advocate for additional state funding.”

Over the last six years, the Maintenance and Operations side of the tax rate has been compressed. The eight-year total reduction is now nearly $0.42.

  • In adopting the budget during the special board meeting, Trustees also approved: 
  • A one-time payment of $1,200 for all full-time employees ($600 for part-time employees) that will be made in October
  • A salary step increase for returning teachers (minimum $300 and possibly more depending on years of service), and 
  • An increased contribution of $30 per month for TRS healthcare coverage, bringing the district’s total annual contribution to $3,960 for participating staff.

“It is a priority of ours to be able to compensate our Bearcat staff, and because of an increase in state funding in 2025, we were able to give significant raises in that year to all of our employees, but unless things change, the current projected state share of funding will actually decrease this year,” Board President Forrest Collins said. “When you add the inflation that we are all experiencing, it creates significant budget issues. We certainly wish we could do more for our staff and want them to know how much we value and appreciate them for all they do to help our students have success.”

Last year, the district started a teaching experience stipend for all classroom teachers ($525-$4,000) and an Aledo ISD experience stipend for all other Aledo ISD employees ($500-$2,000), and those stipends will continue to be implemented this year. With those stipends, Aledo ISD had the highest or near highest raises for employees in the state in 2025-2026.
